Lungitude Foundation Research Grant

The Lungitude Foundation Board will consider Small Project Funding grant applications from qualified medical and health professionals, hospitals and institutions committed to standards of excellence in the field of lung (and other organ) transplantation.

Check List

  • All applications must be submitted on the Small Project Funding Application Form (“Form”)
  • 1 Grant Application per Form
  • Please ensure that your research project meets the Lungitude Model Rules as described in the Form
  • Each Grant is up to $30,000 per annum for up to 2 years. However, there may be circumstances where this is increased such as 1) paying two years upfront will accelerate the research outcomes and 2) increased funding has become available. Please ensure you stipulate the total value of the research project and any mitigating circumstances that will add further value to the consideration.
  • If your application does not yet have Ethics approval, please submit your application. If your application is successful, funds may be held back until Ethics is approved.
  • If your application does not require an Ethics approval please submit your application detailing why this is the case.
  • Lungitude’s Research and Scientific Advisory Committee will independently review all applications and provide guidance to the Lungitude Board. The Lungitude Board will make the final decision on all Grants.
  • Applications will only be accepted for research projects carried out in Australia.

1 March 2024 – Applications Open
12 April 2024 – Applications Close
31 April 2024 – Successful Applicants notified
30 June 2024 – Grants paid as per agreement and details on the Form

The Jeff Gittus Lung Transplant Fellowship was announced in 2019, funded generously by Liz Gittus and the Gittus Family. The Fellowship provides funding for a research project that focuses specifically on improving lung transplant patient outcomes.

The primary aims of this Fellowship are to:

  • fund a small study that is complete in itself and not merely part of a major study
  • encourage individuals or groups that have not previously been involved in research activities
  • assist graduates in the Health Sciences to initiate research studies, or complete a research project which may form part of higher qualification requirements

One fellowship grant of up to $20,000 will be available every two years to fund a project of 12-18 months total duration.

The Zoe Brookes Paediatric Grant was announced in 2023, funded by Lungitude Foundation supporters. The Grant provides funding for a paediatric research project that focuses specifically on improving paediatric lung transplant patient outcomes.

The primary aims of this Grant are to:

  • fund a small study that is complete in itself and not merely part of a major study
  • encourage individuals or groups that have not previously been involved in research activities
  • assist graduates in the Health Sciences to initiate research studies, or complete a research project which may form part of higher qualification requirements

One Grant of up to $20,000 will be available every two years to fund a project of 12-18 months total duration.

Applicants should please follow the process detailed above for the Lungitude Small Project Grant Funding. The same timetable and application process applies.
